History of New Holland Concrete
1925
A group of New Holland businessmen purchased the Musselman Concrete Pipe Company in New Holland, PA, reorganized and renamed it the New Holland Concrete Company. During this period, more advances were made in the manufacturing of both concrete pipe and concrete block-- including the first mechanical block machine, which they installed in 1929. This company continued to operate until 1942, when Ivan and Irene Martin purchased the business, equipment, and property at a public auction.
The concrete pipe and block business provided Mr. Martin with another market for stone produced at his Blue Ball quarry. Despite the purchase of additional land for storage area and a number of plant and production improvements between 1942 and 1946, the company could barely meet the demands of the growing business industry.
1948
The company changed its name to New Holland Concrete Products, Inc. and moved to East Jackson Street in New Holland, PA. The company built a new plant and installed a new block and pipe machine. The block machine could produce 500 blocks per day that had to be lifted by hand from the pallets to the kiln racks, then taken from the kiln racks and be cubed by hand. The plant continued to grow, with the installation of a second block machine in 1950 that could make 2,200 blocks per day.
1949
New Holland's ready-mix concrete business began with the purchase of two mixer trucks. The mixer trucks would load stone and sand at Martin's Blue Ball, PA quarry, then return to the New Holland plant and add cement and water from a fire hydrant.
1951
New Holland Concrete signed on with Amweld ® to begin representing commercial doors. This is the start of what would eventually become “Door Solutions by New Holland Concrete.”
1971
In order to concentrate on the ever-expanding block and ready-mix market, Mr. Martin sold the concrete pipe division to New Enterprise Stone & Lime Co., Inc. of New Enterprise, PA.
1979
A new manufacturing plant opened in the spring, and nearly doubled the company's block production capacity.
